Which CC licences are available to publish under?

Springer Nature supports use of the Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY) as it is considered the gold standard for open access publication by industry bodies such as OASPA (the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association), and is the preferred or required licence of many major research funders worldwide.

The CC BY licence permits users to share and build upon an article in any context provided that authors receive credit, and therefore facilitates rapid dissemination and engagement with research results.

As such, all articles accepted for publication in this journal are made available under a CC BY licence and we therefore no longer consider requests to publish under alternative, more restrictive Creative Commons licences.
